The StrapWrap™, is a fabric wrapper that fastens around a seatbelt with Velcro. With its bright red color and medical emblem, the StrapWrap™ captures the attention of emergency personnel after a car accident, when seconds can mean the difference between life and death for a person with a bleeding disorder. A special form inside the StrapWrap™ contains medical history with crucial information, which is concealed to protect one’s privacy until needed by emergency medical staff. The StrapWrap™ also can be used on a purse, backpack, trouser belt, bicycle seat post, or anything that the strap can wrap around.

BioRx is providing the StrapWrap™ and the accompanying custom printed medical history form, free of charge to individuals with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. The Story Behind BioRx’s StrapWrap

StrapWrap™ was developed and named by Claudia McCarthy, whose grandson, John Claude McCarthy, was diagnosed with Hemophilia shortly after birth. Claudia and John Claude’s mother, Mary McCarthy, both were extremely concerned about keeping him safe. But as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), Claudia knew that if John Claude were ever in an accident, his hemophilia made a quick response even more critical… especially if he or the adult in the car were unable to respond.

Claudia brainstormed many ideas to call attention to John Claude’s hemophilia in case of an emergency, before deciding on the concept for the StrapWrap™. “When emergency service providers arrive on an accident scene to render aid,” Claudia says, “one of the first steps involves removing the patient’s seat belt. I knew that the most prominent place to locate important medical information would be on that seatbelt.” She developed a prototype of a cloth device with medical info inside to wrap around a seatbelt, then approached BioRx with her idea.
